Keep It Simple: Being the Simple Church in a Complex World

podcasticon2

This link will take you to a podcast – the first of its kind. Another Simple Church planter from Lexington, Kentucky named Gavin Duerson and I sat down before a microphone and spent hours discussing House Church. The first podcast is called “Beginnings, Part 1”. Part 2 will be published shortly. Stay tuned for more episodes of “Keep It Simple: Being the Simple Church in a Complex World.” We will eventually make it to the iTunes Podcast Directory (as soon as I figure out how!). In the meantime, enjoy! Please feel free to leave a comment!

God Bless,

Tom

Below is a general description of the podcast.

Keep it Simple: Being the Simple Church in a Complex World   is a weekly podcast that explores the joys and challenges of being in a simple church, (aka organic church, micro church, or house church). Tom and Gavin are two guys from different parts of Kentucky who want to promote a simpler form of being God’s church while encouraging the making of Disciples of Jesus, and the multiplication of Simple Churches all over the world. For more information, see https://asformeandmyhouseblog.com/ (Tom’s blog) or http://simplechurchalliance.faclex.com/ (Gavin’s webpage).

It’s All About Jesus

Welcome to our new blog. This is Tom, one of the elders of New Covenant Fellowship. Blogging is new to me and this is one of my first attempts at it. I want to be a good steward of my words. I want my words to represent the same things that our church represents. More importantly, I want the words on this page to give glory to God.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.  – Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

You see, I don’t want to merely create a page which only celebrates the unique advantages of worshiping in a simple venue, such as house church. There are many such blogs and you are welcome to read them all. Instead, I want this page to first and foremost reflect the glory of Jesus. The church is the body of Christ on this earth. Churches should always point to Him, and not themselves. The Apostle Paul says it best:

“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” – 2 Corinthians 4:5 (ESV)

So, as you read through this blog, I hope and pray that this page will never ever become a place where believers fight over which is the best way to “do” church. We don’t “DO” church. We ARE the church. We are followers of Christ Jesus. We follow Him because He saved us and redeemed us from a hopeless way of life.

We will talk about practical ways of serving Jesus. We will talk about simple ways of being the church. But all of this comes out of the realization that we as a church belong to Christ. Whatever we do, we do for Him.

A Church Where You Will Feel At Home

100_1455

New Covenant Fellowship is a group of Christian believers who gather in a church without walls. We have no central building. We have no paid staff. We meet in homes. In living rooms. In dens. In backyards. Yet we are a church. We are growing. We are growing numerically. We are growing spiritually. We are seeking to know Jesus and to make Him known. We are seeking to build strong families. We are seeking to influence the world for Jesus Christ.
